Stump grinding, Titusville

Stump grinding in Titusville, FL

One stump in a front yard or forty on a cleared acre. North Brevard lots run bigger and so do the jobs, so we price by the lot when it makes sense and bring the machine that suits the ground.

Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Estimates are free and in writing before anything starts.

What are we looking at?

Six Titusville stumps we get called for.

6 of them

  • Cleared sandy lot with several cut pine stumps
    01

    Pines on a cleared lot

Rows of stumps left after clearing, ahead of a build or a fence. Counted and priced together.

  • Oak base with a wide flare of surface roots spreading across a lawn
    02

    A wide oak flare

A mature oak leaves a base far wider than the trunk. The grind goes out to the flare, not just the stump.

  • Tree stump at the edge of a gravel driveway
    03

    Beside a shell driveway

Stumps at the edge of a gravel or shell drive, where the roots are lifting the surface.

  • Land clearing work on an open acreage lot
    04

    Acreage, all at once

Scattered stumps across pasture or an overgrown field. The tractor gets to them, the pickup does not.

  • Tree stump sitting close against a wooden fence line
    05

    On the fence line

A stump sitting under or against a fence, where the posts have to stay standing.

  • Stump grinder cutter wheel throwing wood chips onto a lawn
    06

    The pile afterwards

A big grind makes a lot of material. It stays as fill, or it goes on the truck.

Compact stump grinder working close to a wooden backyard fence

North Brevard jobs are usually counted, not measured. Forty stumps is a different price per stump than one.

Bring the machine to the ground, not the other way round.

  • 01

Volume changes the price per stump.

A single stump carries the whole cost of getting a machine to Titusville. Forty on one lot spreads that across forty, which is why a cleared acre often prices lower per stump than one oak in a front yard.

  • 02

    Two machines, two jobs.

The compact grinder fits a side gate and works a suburban backyard. For open ground and volume the tractor carries the work and the loader moves the material, so nothing waits on a wheelbarrow.

  • 03

Depth follows the plan for the ground.

Lawn depth is four to six inches under grade. A slab, a pole barn pad, a fence line or a new driveway all want more, and that goes on the estimate as a depth, not as a guess.

  • 04

    Sandy north Brevard soil settles.

Grindings and sand both compact after rain. We overfill so the spot levels out rather than dishing, and we say which spots are likely to need a top up.

  • 05

What is buried comes up first.

Well lines, septic, cable and old fence wire all turn up around stumps on older north Brevard lots. We ask before we grind and we stop when we hit something that was not on the list.

What the visit looks like.

  • Count and walk the lot.

How many, how big, how far apart, and whether a truck and trailer get to them. On acreage that walk is most of the estimate.

  • Pick the machine.

Gate width, ground condition and how much material is coming out decide whether the compact grinder or the tractor does the work.

  • Grind in passes.

Down past grade and out to the flare, one stump at a time, working the lot in an order that keeps the machine off soft ground.

  • Fill, or load and haul.

Grindings left and levelled, or picked up by the loader and taken out on the truck. Nothing is burned on site.

Our equipment

The three machines that keep this a one visit job instead of a rental.

Most crews rent when a job calls for more than a saw and quote accordingly. These three are ours and they come as standard.

  • Old weathered stump split and greying in dry grass

    01

    Stump grinder

    On the job
Takes a stump below grade in passes and grinds out to the root flare.
    Why it matters
We run a large machine and a compact one, which is why a narrow gate stops being the reason a stump stays.
  • TR tractor working an open lot

    02

    Tractor

    On the job
Works open ground, pasture and cleared lots where a truck and trailer will not go.
    Why it matters
On acreage the tractor is the difference between reaching the work and quoting around it.
  • TR giant mini loader moving material on a job site

    03

    Giant mini loader

    On the job
Carries sections and material through a standard side gate and across turf on tracks.
    Why it matters
Backyard work needs the wood out through the gate rather than a panel taken out of the fence.

The rest of the fleet comes to the same property under the same estimate. Every machine, with photos, is on the equipment page.

Stump grinding questions from Titusville.

  • Diameter at the widest point, the number of stumps, and how hard they are to reach. In Titusville the number usually matters most: a lot with twenty stumps prices very differently per stump than a single one in a front yard. Estimates are free and in writing.

  • Yes, and for anything over about ten stumps that is normally how we do it. We walk the lot, count, check access and quote the job. That is cheaper for you than twenty line items and it is faster for us.

  • We grind. Excavating a root plate leaves a crater that needs fill trucked in and costs more than the stump is worth on most lots. Grinding takes it below grade and leaves the ground usable.

  • Four to six inches below grade for lawn. Deeper when something is going on top, whether that is sod, a slab, a pad or a fence post, and the depth is written on the estimate.

  • No. With the tree gone and the stump below grade there is nothing left to drive regrowth, and the remaining roots break down in the soil.

  • On a big grind it is a real volume. Left in place it fills the holes and settles. If you want it gone, the loader picks it up and it leaves on the truck. We do not burn on site.

  • Usually yes. The tractor goes where a truck will not, and we walk the ground first to check it is firm enough to carry the machine. After a wet week we may ask to come back.

  • Tell us where they are. Drain fields and well lines sit at grinding depth and they are not always where the plat says. We work off what you know and stay clear of anything uncertain.

  • A single stump is usually under an hour on site. A cleared acre with twenty or thirty stumps is a day, sometimes two if the material is being hauled rather than left.
