01Fresh cut, someone else's
A tree came down and the stump stayed. Fresh wood grinds fast, and the sawdust fills the hole.
02Old and rotting
Grey, cracked, half soft. Old stumps come out lower and faster than people expect.
03Behind a side gate

Grinding is not pulling.
The grinder takes the stump down in passes rather than lifting it out with the root plate. Nothing gets dragged across the lawn, and the hole you are left with is the size of the stump instead of the size of the root ball.

How deep depends on what goes back on top.
Four to six inches under grade is enough for grass. If sod, a slab, a post or a driveway edge is going over it, we go deeper and say so in the estimate before we start.

Sand changes the job.
Palm Bay soil runs to sand, which grinds easily and settles hard. We overfill slightly so the spot does not sink into a dish after the first heavy rain.

The grindings are yours to keep or lose.
They make good fill and cost nothing to leave. If you want the hole topped with clean soil instead, we haul the grindings off and bring fill in. Both go on the estimate as separate lines.

We find what is under it first.
Irrigation lines, a septic drain field, cable and low voltage lighting all live where stumps do. We locate what we can see and ask about what we cannot before the wheel turns.
What the visit looks like.
Measure and check access.
Stump diameter at the widest point, how many, and whether the gate and the side yard take the machine. That sets the price.
Clear the ring.
Rocks, roots and anything the wheel could throw come out first. Boards go up against a wall, a cage or a window if we are working close to one.
Grind in passes.
Side to side, a few inches at a time, down past grade and out to the root flare.
Fill and rake.
Grindings back in and levelled, or hauled off and the hole topped up. Either way you can walk on it that day. A sod patch can go in the same week.

It is priced on diameter at the widest point, how many you have, and how hard the machine is to get to. One stump in an open front yard is the cheap end. One behind a narrow gate with irrigation around it costs more than its size suggests. Several in one visit always cost less each than the same stumps booked separately, and every estimate is free and in writing.

Yes. Most of the cost of a small job is getting the machine onto the property. Once it is there and running, the second and third stumps are a fraction of the first. If you know there are more, say so before the estimate rather than after.

We grind. Removal means excavating the whole root plate, which leaves a crater, needs fill brought in, and usually costs more than the stump is worth. Grinding takes the stump below grade and leaves the lawn intact. There is more on the difference on the main stump grinding page.

Four to six inches below grade as standard, which is enough for grass to grow over. If something structural is going on top, a slab, a post, a driveway edge or new sod, we go deeper and note the depth on the estimate.

No. Once the stump is ground below grade and the tree is gone, the root system has nothing feeding it and it breaks down in the ground. It does not resprout and it does not need treating.

Your choice. Left in the hole they make fill and settle in over a few weeks. Hauled off, we take them with us and top the hole with soil. Nothing is burned on site.

The machine is tracked or wheeled and sized to fit a standard side gate, so it does not need a path cut through the fence. Where it has to cross turf we tell you first and put it right if it marks.

Tell us where the lines and heads run before we start. Irrigation sits at the same depth as a grind, and around a stump is exactly where it tends to be. If you do not know, we work conservatively and say what we found.

Yes. Palm is fibrous rather than woody, so it comes apart differently and makes a wetter, stringier pile than an oak. It grinds fine, it just does not behave like hardwood.
